Three Classic Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Songs
At their peak in the mid-90s, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony were one of the most interesting and successful hip-hop groups of the era. They are said to have been one of the originators of the fast, melodic style of rapping that you can still see today with artists like Twista and Chamillionire. Today, the band has finally reconciled after years of bitterness and strife, and the incarceration of pseudo-member Flesh-N-Bone. They are working on a new album that should be released in early 2010. Your paintball gun won’t be enough to deter these thugs, so prepare yourself–here is a look back on their top three songs.
Foe tha Love of $
Eazy-E made one last appearance before his death in this song and video by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony to show his support for the group. Eazy-E found and signed them to his Ruthless Records label and was a mentor to the young kids from Cleveland. On this successful G-funk flavored hit, the Thugs show by Eazy was so impressed by these young kids when they showed up to his house and rapped for him on his front step. A classic of the early Bone sound, they would only get better from here.
1st of tha Month
Who would have thought that a gangster rap ode to welfare checks would get nominated for a Grammy. Nevertheless, that’s just what happened in 1996 with this smash single for the Bone Thugs. “1st of tha Month” showed that the members could show their humerous and fun side as well sometimes—it wasn’t all about skull and death imagery and tales about the rough side of Ohio.
If I Could Teach the World
Showing their soft side and their ability to harmonize like the best, Bone Thugs released this modestly successful and soulful song in 1997 to general acclaim. It wasn’t as successful as “Look Into My Eyes” another song from the album with a similar tone, but is notable for its powerful, inspiration chorus, which “Look into My Eyes” lacked.
