NFL Tickets – A Look at the Over/Under for the AFC North
Perhaps the most underrated division in the entire league is the AFC North. While the AFC and NFC East gain attention as two of the best divisions in the NFL, the AFC North is still one of the very top divisions. Looks take a look at the over/under lines for the AFC North heading into the regular season.
Cincinnati Bengals, 8 wins:
The Bengals won the division last year with a 10-6 record, surprising much of the league in the process. Even though Carson Palmer still doesn’t seem to be the quarterback he once was, the Bengals were able to take down the division due to a strong running game and a very good defensive unit. This season, Carson Palmer has considerably more weapons to choose from after the team added Terrell Owens, Antonio Bryant and rookie tight end Jermaine Gresham. As long as running back Cedric Benson can remain healthy, the offense should be significantly upgraded, which will place them in the running to win the division. Verdict: Over.
Pittsburgh Steelers, 8.5 wins:
Even though the Steelers still have plenty of talent, losing a franchise quarterback for six games is likely too much to overcome. With a few playmakers on each side of the ball, however, the Steelers aren’t likely to fold, even if they get in a hole early in the season with either Dennis Dixon or Byron Leftwich being forced to start at quarterback. I still expect running back Rashard Mendenhall to have a big season and for the Steelers to take down some impressive upsets, but it looks like a second consecutive year without a playoff appearance for the Steel crew. Verdict: Under.
Cleveland Browns, 5.5 wins:
It’s hard to imagine the Browns being able to put it together this season. New quarterback Jake Delhomme gives some veteran leadership to the team but Delhomme has developed a strange habit of throwing to the opposing team in recent years, a trend that doesn’t typically work out well in team sports. Outside of running back Jerome Harrison, the Browns have a lack of playmakers on offense and their defensive unit is filled with underachieving, former high draft picks. Though the Browns have Colt McCoy waiting to take over the franchise and sell <a href=”http://www.stubhub.com/nfl-tickets/”>NFL tickets</a>, it’s hard to imagine them getting many wins in a very tough division. Verdict: Under.
Baltimore Ravens, 10 wins:
The Ravens won nine games last season and only got stronger as the season went on. Much has been said about the addition of wideout Anquan Boldin to their receiving corps, and for good reason. Boldin is a stud receiver who can take considerable pressure off of both number two wideout Derrick Mason and quarterback Joe Flacco. Flacco should see significant improvement with Boldin out wide and he still has Ray Rice, a talented back who is quickly moving up the list of elite running backs in the league. On defense, however, the Ravens are starting to get a little too far past the prime of some of their key players and will have to deal with substantial injuries to their secondary. Even with some key injuries, including one to safety Ed Reed that will keep him out until the seventh game, the Ravens still appear to be the best team in the division. If they can find a way to plug the holes in the secondary, this feels like an 11 or 12-win team, but that might be a very difficult thing to do. Verdict: Push.
